A Very Important Follow Up

A very good friend Michael Kennedy (who just happens to live in the Great State of Texas) sent me an eye opener in response to my previous column “Just What Is The Objective???”.

I have read the Federalist Papers many times over, but due in part I am sure, to advancing old age and shortness of memory, I had forgotten the portion he so graciously sent me, so I am including it here.

ONE piece of instruction from the Founders that would go a long way in righting all this— a near silver bullet to the heart of the beast!

Imagine a whole legislative class, and president focused on this ONE issue:

“The house of representatives … can make no law which will not have its full operation on themselves and their friends, as well as the great mass of society. This has always been deemed one of the strongest bonds by which human policy can connect the rulers and the people together. It creates between them that communion of interest, and sympathy of sentiments, of which few governments have furnished examples; but without which every government degenerates into tyranny.” –James Madison, Federalist No. 57, 1788

“Nothing shall be exempt. Every past or new policy, law, and regulation is to be reviewed. If they deem NOT to make it applicable to the government itself—i.e. THEMSELVES, then it is repealed for all of us.”

That puts the frosting on the cake in no uncertain terms.

The political elites, in some cases at the local level, but with a certainty nationally, have developed what can only be described as a sense of arrogance, privilege, and incredible hubris.

When Obama visited an Indian reservation a while back they gave him an Indian name “Eagle Who Walks” he for all of his supposed Harvard education (he doesn’t know the difference between Corps and Corpse) probably still doesn’t realize the significance of the name, which implies that he is so full of you know what that he can’t lift off and fly, now that is hubris.

I don’t think these folks realize how much frustration and discontent they are creating with this attitude of elitism, class, and privilege, and just recently it has been made a felony to protest the government when the Secret Service is present.

I wrote a column about a week ago entitled “The First Amendment Has Been Murdered” and there is no other word for it, as free speech is not free if the government insulates itself to the point where they can’t or won’t hear us.

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I liken the country in its present condition, to a giant pressure cooker which is about ready to blow, but the crowd in Washington, are much like the Aristocrats of the French Revolution, oblivious to the seething anger and resentment surrounding them, attending social functions while Marie Antoinette made stupid remarks like “What no bread, let them eat cake”, which as we know she paid for with her head.

Read your very interesting articles & am interested in finding the section in the “Federalist Papers” concerning the statement that all laws will apply to congress the way it applies to the citizens. I have been looking but am unable to locate it (Madison”.

    Thank you,
